Prayer is rebellion 15th September, 2006

You read the title and think “WHAT?” Here’s a quote that got me thinking:

“Prayer is in essence rebellion – rebellion against the world and its falleness, the absolute and undying refusal to accept as normal what is pervasively abnormal. Prayer is the refusal of every agenda, every scheme, every interpretation that is at offs with the norm as originally established by God. Thus prayer truly is a struggle.”

For one of my classes I have to read a few sections out of “A dictionary of Paul and his letters” and so I decided to read what it says about Paul and prayer… this really jumped out at me.

I see so many Christians struggle with prayer. Why? You’d think they’d be glad to get to spend time with the God who created them, but nope! Prayer goes against everything Satan stands for. You pray to his enemy, you pray against his will, you deny his authority over your life… and so it makes him mad. He does everything possible in his power to prevent it. Prayer rebels against the authority of ‘the world’.

Once more I am humbled by the gift of prayer. I rejoice that God has given me a love for it, and I pray that God will raise us up to be a generation who pray!
