The 3 things in Hebrews that stole my attention were:

  1. Bible Readthrough - HebrewsHeb 2:18
“Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted”I am dumbstruck when I contemplate the humanity of Jesus. He was fully human, giving up all his power and authority, to live on the Earth like one of us. Not only that, but he suffered temptation just like we did, and he won out.If Jesus was to be born in 1984, he could easily have lived my life! But there would have been a difference… He would have been so focussed on God, that He would have lived my life sin free! And so I am encouraged, to keep my eyes focussed on God, knowing that through Him I can overcome all sin.
  2. Heb 4:12
“For the word of God is living and active… it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”The Bible is ALIVE. it is the LIVING WORD! It is powerful. Why is it that every time I do the readthrough I notice new things? Why does it always speak into my life? because it is living. The bible is different from any other book because it examines us as we examine it.I pray that the bible will always seem fresh to me, and that God will keep me loving the Word with the same, if not more passion than I do now.
  3. Heb 12:2
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith”Fix our eyes on Jesus. It’s as simple as that!! I see people who wrestle with their faith.. “i don’t read my bible as much as this guy”, or “i don’t pray as much as that one”. Then the next problem enters in because now their focus is on praying more, rather than on becoming like Christ. We live in a world that measures success by what we have. But the reality is, our spiritual success is measured by the journey. It is a process of pursuing Christlikeness, and the amount of time we spend in the word or prayer, is a by-product of our desire to be with/like him.

So, fix your eyes on Jesus, and the time you spend in the word and prayer will naturally increase as your passion for him increases.
